List of active verbs

Based on my own experience, there is a list of active verbs which are used most frequently in literature reviews of theses and dissertations.

A lot of lists I found on Google are perhaps bigger lists but in most, if not all, cases those verbs are inappropriate for literature reviews of a thesis or a dissertation. So, I compiled my own list of active verbs. Here are all the words in a non-user-friendly way (link to PDF file below). Continue reading »

5 Rules On How To Increase Creativity When Writing A Paper

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 12:15 1 Comment
Think creatively

Think creatively

Master students experience writer blocks quite often simply because they are not passionate about the subject they write about. Now if you just started writing your project on a subject matter that you are not ‘crazy’ about I would try to circumvent you to change your topic. But let’s suppose that I don’t want to do that. Let’s just say, for the sake of the argument, we have to deal with what we’ve got. How would we go about increasing your creativity when writing a thesis or any other research paper? How To Achieve More Goals With A Simple Calendar On The Wall

Achieve goals w/ calendar

Achieve goals w/ calendar

I just read a great article that I thought I should definitely write about. The article is about how to achieve your goals more effectively and how to be more productive using a useful calendar technique.

The main character here is the guy named Brad Isaac who can be found at his personal blog. Brad, to my surprise, happens to be once in the comic business. You know the kind of the stand-on-stage throwing jokes at the group of people. So, one night Brad met at one of the clubs a now-famous comedian, actor and writer Jerry Seinfeld.  Without any hesitation, Brad, knowing that Jerry was really good at being funny on the stage, asked him to give some tips to a young comic like Brad. look for your passion

look for your passion

Due to many requests I’ve recently gotten, I decided to publish a transcript for my audio lesson on how to select a topic for a master thesis.

In reality, the same principles apply to almost anything we do in our lives. Be it selecting a topic or choosing a business area we need to make our decisions based on our interests and passions.

In the lesson I talk about what one needs to stress upon when selecting a topic to keep him/her passionate about during the entire process of thesis writing. Continue reading »

10 Top Mistakes Every Student Makes When Writing a Master Thesis

Wednesday, October 1, 2008 6:33 6 Comments

The master thesis writing process is riddled with pitfalls. Any one of these can make you lose sight of your goals and prevent you from finishing your master’s thesis. Among the numerous mistakes that students make when writing their master thesis, here are the top most.

10 mistakes

10 mistakes

1. Choosing a difficult topic or a title that sounds esoteric for wow factor
There’s nothing wrong with a thesis title/topic that laymen and people from other academic disciplines will find difficult to understand. However, master students should remember that their first priority should be to choose a topic that interests them – not a topic that will impress others in their discipline. Do not make the mistake of choosing an exceedingly esoteric topic and a very difficult-to-pronounce title just to impress others and sound truly “academic.” You’re probably going to regret going for such a topic if your interest lies elsewhere; you’ll find such a master thesis difficult to complete.

How To Write A Master Thesis - The Birth Of

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 22:22 No Comments

Only a while ago I was sitting in front of my computer trying to finish my thesis. While the knowledge of strategies, tools and methodologies was extremely crucial to my thesis writing it is only now I realize that the mindset played even more important role to accomplish the task. And by mindset I mean a “state of mind” or the psychology.

Many people, including master students, postpone on so many things in their lives. This has been and is a universal decease and a bottlebeck for many of us to realize our potential including plans and dreams. In fact it is eroding and devastating.

With the passage of time, our self-confidence diminishes and we lose that self-connection with ourselves that is the fundamental “secret” of all successful people known to a mankind.

Having graduated from the Business School in Copenhagen and now full-time employed by an IT firm (where I work as a Senior Analyst). However, I consider myself entrepreneurial, which is why I decided to found that is essentially a help guide to students who are writing or about to start writing their theses.

Now, is still a kind of service that will discuss and cover techniques and tools needed for the superiour technical performance of thesis writing. However, I strongly believe that without a discipline or personal development part so to speak we are doomed to accomplish any task not to mention a thesis. In fact I’ learned that a lack of motivation or discipline as well as shortage of awareness of the subconscious mind many of us get steered away and eventually get so disappointed with oneself.

At the moment, we offer our subscribers e-zines. At the same time we are working on the number of other services which we believe will play a vital role during their writing process.
