Online Education Sites
Some time ago I made a post about Academic Earth, a good resource that delivers thousands of academic lecturers to your ‘doors’.
Thanks for LifeHacker.com and oculture.com I got to know that YouTube has recently launched a similar service which they called YouTube EDU.
The concept is more or less the same as Academic Earth. According to the above mentioned resources, there are about 200 videos at the moment. I am certain that YouTube / Google will catch up quite soon as both know that educational videos are in an extremely high demand. Continue reading »

Tuesday, January 20, 2009 7:45 No CommentsList of active verbs
Based on my own experience, there is a list of active verbs which are used most frequently in literature reviews of theses and dissertations.
A lot of lists I found on Google are perhaps bigger lists but in most, if not all, cases those verbs are inappropriate for literature reviews of a thesis or a dissertation. So, I compiled my own list of active verbs. Here are all the words in a non-user-friendly way (link to PDF file below). Continue reading »

Master students experience writer blocks quite often simply because they are not passionate about the subject they write about. Now if you just started writing your project on a subject matter that you are not ‘crazy’ about I would try to circumvent you to change your topic. But let’s suppose that I don’t want to do that. Let’s just say, for the sake of the argument, we have to deal with what we’ve got. How would we go about increasing your creativity when writing a thesis or any other research paper? Achieve goals w/ calendar
I just read a great article that I thought I should definitely write about. The article is about how to achieve your goals more effectively and how to be more productive using a useful calendar technique.
The main character here is the guy named Brad Isaac who can be found at his personal blog. Brad, to my surprise, happens to be once in the comic business. You know the kind of the stand-on-stage throwing jokes at the group of people. So, one night Brad met at one of the clubs a now-famous comedian, actor and writer Jerry Seinfeld. Without any hesitation, Brad, knowing that Jerry was really good at being funny on the stage, asked him to give some tips to a young comic like Brad. Continue reading »

Wake up quickly
Steve Pavlina from stevepavlina.com shares some nice tips on waking up in the morning quickly. This can be easily applied when you write your thesis project.
When your alarm wakes you up in the morning, is it hard for you to get up right away? Do you find yourself hitting the snooze button and going right back to sleep?
That used to be part of my daily awakening ritual too. When my alarm would blare its infernal noise, I’d turn the damned thing off right away. Then under the cloak of that early morning brain fog, I’d slowly ponder whether or not I should actually get up: Continue reading »
